Dental Connections has been conducting salary and benefit surveys since the early 90s. The surveys we conducted from 2008-2011 had over 1000 respondents from all over Washington. Participation is critical to provide dental practices and dental professionals with accurate, comprehensive, and current statistics for our region. This is a non-scientific survey and your answers are strictly confidential. Results will be available later this year.

This year's Salary and Benefits Survey is complete. Results are only available for hygienists and assistants. Unfortunately, not enough business staff or dentists participated to a produce a large enough sample set. Access the results by clicking on salary survey from the navigation bar above.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Over 200 dental professionals completed a survey and we hope for greater response from business staff and dentists next year. A special thank you to Gene Patterson at the WSDHA for helping us promote the survey to their membership.

Dental Volunteers Needed

Medical Teams International is an international relief and development organization. In the Pacific Northwest, their Mobile Dental Program provides free/low-cost dental care to low-income individuals who have no other access to care. Urgent care needs are their priority. Each of their eleven mobile units consist of two chairs with x-rays, current up-to-date equipment and instruments for all basic dental procedures. Ability to offer care is based solely upon the willingness of dental professionals to volunteer.

This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to your community and profession through a reputable organization. Dental Connections is donating its resources free of charge to assist in recruiting licensed dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants. The State of Washington Department of Health’s Volunteer/Retired Providers Program will provide professional liability insurance and license fee for volunteer participation. Dentists may earn up to 7 hours of continuing education credit under WAC 246-817-440.

The mobile clinics are typically from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Volunteers can commit to one day a month, quarter, or year at one of over sixty different sites Monday through Saturday throughout the Puget Sound area.

More than 2 million children and adults in the Pacific Northwest live below federal poverty levels. For this and other reasons, many families in Washington State have no reasonable access to basic dental care. Their dental needs go untreated and grow into severe conditions which can affect sleep, nourishment, and daily function.

In the spirit of the holiday we reflect on what we have accomplished, the lives we have touched, and most importantly what we are thankful for.

We are thankful for the opportunity to work with such amazing dental professionals. We are thankful for our tireless and dedicated temp workers that answer our calls time and time again. We are thankful to work with dental practices that embody small business and entrepreneurship. And we are thankful that we are making a contribution to so many hard working people during a difficult economic time.

Five states with the biggest predicted job growth this year:

Washington reported 12,400 net new payroll jobs in January, the first increase since November 2008. As more workers gain employment in our state dental jobs will quickly follow as their dental benefits kick in.

#8 and #10 says a lot about the dental industry during these challenging economic times. No matter how long this recession lasts dental workers will still be in high demand. As Americans reduce their spending they still need to go to the dentist!
